《唐代游记选译/中国古典游记选译》:
A Letter to Scholar Pei Di on a Mountain By Wang Wei It was already late twelfth month by the lunar calendar, when the scenery and climate are fine and agreeable, theright time to visit the Lantian Mountain, where we usedto live. I went there on my own lest I might interrupt yourreview of books and scriptures. On the way I stopped at theGanpei Temple and had dinner there with the monks. When I left and went north, crossing the Ba River, thedear, bright moon was shining over broad, wide city walls. Iclimbed the Huazi Ridge at night and saw the gentle ripples ofthe Wang River rising and falling in the moonlight. Far awayin the cold, silent mountain, campfire flickered, giving occa-sional glimpses of the trees on the mountain. The barking ofcold dogs in deep lanes sounded like wild leopards; the soundof nighttime poundings in rustic villages mixed with the ring-ing of the temple bell on the mountain. Sitting on the Ridgealone, the servant asleep, I reminisced about the past when wewrote poems together: how we walked on narrow mountainpaths, or approached dear streams... When spring comes, all the trees and grasses come upand begin to grow; the scenery of the mountain wiU be atits best with swift minnows swimming up to the surfaceof the water, white gulls fluttering their wings, cold dewdamping the green banks of rivers, and male pheasantscrowing in the fields early in the morning. It won"t be long, and perhaps you may be able to enjoy all these with methen? If you were not so smart and intelligent by nature, how could 1 invite you to share such companionable, lei-surely things? In fact, there is profound significance andinterest in them which should not be overlooked. I will not expound here and the letter will be deliveredby a cork tree dealer. This statement was made by Wang Weion the Mountain.
